Early Voting

Orange County offers early voting to all eligible, registered Orange County voters who wish to vote early, in-person rather than voting absentee by mail or on Election Day at your assigned polling place.

Early Voting Hours

  • Thursday, Oct. 15 and Friday, Oct. 16: 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

  • Saturday, Oct. 17: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Sunday, Oct. 18: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Monday through Friday Oct. 19 to 23: 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

  • Saturday, Oct. 24: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Sunday, Oct. 25: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Monday through Friday, Oct. 26 to 30: 8 a.m to 7:30 p.m.

  • Saturday, Oct. 31: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Orange Works at Hillsborough Commons (in lieu of BOE office): 113 Mayo St, Hillsborough

  • Drakeford Library in Carrboro: 203 S Greensboro St, Carrboro

Same Day Registration

Same Day Voter Registration is available during the Early Voting period at all Early Voting sites. If completing Same-Day Registration, one must provide proof of residency in Orange County, and must vote during Early Voting rather than on Election Day. By-Mail Voter Registration Deadline

The voter registration deadline is 25 days prior to an election, falling on a Friday, at 5:00 p.m. Applications must be delivered to the Board of Elections by 5:00 p.m. or must be postmarked by 5:00 p.m.

Absentee Voting

Orange County also offers absentee voting by mail to all Orange County registered voters who wish to vote by mail rather than in person at a one-stop early voting site or on Election Day. Absentee ballot requests may be submitted using the required Absentee Ballot Request Form, either in person (at the above address) or by mail (at the Post Office Box listed above).

Voter Registration Repair Project

Background

The State Board of Elections is conducting a Registration Repair Project for voters who appear to be missing their North Carolina Driver’s License/NC ID number or the last four digits of their Social Security number from their registration. Under federal law (52 U.S.C. § 21803) and North Carolina law (G.S. § 163-82.4), when a person registers to vote, they must provide their NC driver’s license/ID number or, if they don’t have one, the last four digits of their social security number. This information is used to verify the person’s identity. If a voter lacks both of these numbers, they may indicate this when they register to vote. Based on a review of voter registration records, a list has been compiled of voters who may not have provided a N.C. driver’s license number or the last four digits of their social security number when they registered.

How to Check Your Registration

  1. Visit the registration repair page: https://www.ncsbe.gov/registrationrepair

  2. Use the Registration Repair Search Tool on that page: https://dl.ncsbe.gov/RegistrationRepair/index.html

  3. Select “Orange County” and search by name – this list is sorted by first name. If a voter’s name is on the list, their ID number is missing.

This tool is updated daily. Once a record is updated with an ID number, a voter’s name should no longer appear on the list within a few days.

Three Ways for a Voter to Provide Missing Information

Important: A driver’s license or SSN cannot be accepted over the phone.

OPTION 1: Online via DMV (you may use this if you have an NC driver’s license or DMV-issued ID)

  • Go to: https://payments.ncdot.gov/ (no fee is required)

  • Click ‘Continue as Guest’

  • Select ‘Update Voter Registration’

  • Follow prompts

OPTION 2: Update Voter Record by Filling Out a Paper Voter Registration Form

  • Provide a driver’s license/NC ID or Social Security number on a voter registration form.

  • A voter may present in person to fill out the form or mail us the form.
